08/22/2006: "Newspapers Laying Off as Advertising and Subscribers Go Away"
Bad news for newspapers. Advertising is drying up. People are advertising less and subscribers are saying goodbye.
Newspapers have long been the major advertising vehicle for most businesses. From grocery stores to car dealers, the newspaper was the main way to get their advertising message to the buying public. Now all that's changed.
As a result, newspapers are laying off big time.
Odd that Bill Gates through his foundation is pumping money into newspapers. The foundation is buying up newspapers all over the country. Is that what the foundation is about? Is it truly the type of organization it says it is?
Back to advertising. If you are a newspaper advertiser, you might want to consider moving your ad dollars over to radio and direct mail and, of course, the Internet.
