07/23/2007: "Buyers Waiting Longer Before Making Online Purchases"
The average time delay between a consumer's first visit to a Web site and the time of purchase has increased since 2005, according to a new study by ScanAlert.
"Digital Window Shopping: The Long Delay Before Buying" found that shoppers this year are taking an average of 34 hours and 19 minutes between browsing and purchasing, up a day and a half from the 2005 average of 19 hours.
I took this information from the latest issue of DM News. It's valuable to you because if you're selling a product or service online, you need to know something: people are going to visit lots of other sites before they make up their mind where they'll buy.
If your Web site doesn't give them what they want, if you don't make it easy to buy, if your sales copy is crap, you're dead in the water.
INFOMERCIALS ARE POPULAR
According to recent studies, people actually enjoy watching infomercials. They like watching famous people selling a product in the hope that they too could look the way the star looks. Infomercials are rather addictive.
This might be something to consider in your other forms of copy. Make it addictive and make people comfortable with it. People buy when they're are comfortable. If the offer is good and the seller credible and they're comfortable with everything they see, they are more likely to buy.
